“LIGHT, JUICY, AND BURSTING WITH RED AND BLACK FRUIT. UTTERLY ENJOYABLE RED WINES, WITH LITTLE TO NO OAK AND AN UNBELIEVABLE PRICE, PERFECT TO DRINK RIGHT NOW!
Red wines under 15 euros!

If you’ve also started to feel that the weather is “opening up” and pulling you toward something lighter and brighter in your glass, come over here so we can look at some super‑enjoyable wines that are perfect for right now. And when we say right now, we mean after the “heavy” wine choices of Easter and winter. The time has come for cool, juicy, equally high‑quality wines that fit these days perfectly… the days that are theoretically on their way. At some point. Patience!

I’ll make a little twist and suggest red wines with juicy fruit and no—or minimal—oak aging, wines you can enjoy with light bites or even on their own. Glass after glass, the bottle will magically empty before you even realize it. And yes, dare to chill them a bit; you won’t regret it.

1. Pian Scorrone Barbera D'Asti DOCG 2023 – Tenuta il Falchetto

Barbera is synonymous with Piemonte, and this one belongs to the school of pure, unadulterated winemaking that showcases its primal character—rich in fruit and freshness. There’s no oak here, and its light body, soft tannins, and generous red cherry give it elegance and the ease to be enjoyed now, at its peak. Pian Scorrone Barbera D'Asti DOCG is living proof that a wine can carry the signature of a legendary estate and still be priced for everyday enjoyment. It begs to be paired with tomato bruschetta topped with buffalo mozzarella.

2. ATMA Red 2022 – Thymiopoulos Vineyards

In what other label would you see Xinomavro and Mandilaria together without being terrified of what awaits inside the bottle? In ATMA, these two temperamental varieties meet under the wings of Apostolos Thymiopoulos, who “tamed” them without a trace of oak, creating a wine bursting with fresh fruit and elegance. Strawberry, pomegranate, sour cherry, and blackcurrant impress with their intensity, while a spark of licorice pairs beautifully with Naxos graviera and a tomato chutney with pink peppercorns.

3. Pinot Noir 2022 – Cono Sur Bicicleta

Put aside the “terroir‑wise” Burgundian Pinot Noirs for a moment and focus on juicy, explosive fruit. Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2022 is a red wine you can literally drink until the heat of summer kicks in. Cono Sur took advantage of Chile’s climate to craft a Pinot Noir that feels like a balm. Behind it stands Concha y Toro—one of the world’s top 10 producers—so they know exactly what they’re doing. It’s as carefree and light as riding a bicycle along the sunny coastal paths of Casablanca, with a gentle breeze blowing through your hair. And somewhere around there, you suddenly catch a hint of lavender.

Sour cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and just a whisper of oak give it that “something” you want when pairing with charcuterie and lightly aged cheeses.

4. Chianti DOCG 2024 – Ricasoli

Here, the label says it all, confirming the legend of Brolio as the ultimate emblem of Tuscany. This is a wine with a disarming price‑to‑quality ratio, introducing you to the magical world of Sangiovese through its juiciest, fruitiest expression. It’s certainly not just any Chianti—it carries the legacy of the Iron Baron, the man who created the region’s original recipe.

Now look at the price again and run to roll out dough for a pizza with prosciutto, arugula, and parmesan flakes. If you have a wood‑fired oven, even better—the 10% of the wine aged in oak makes this the perfect companion for endless nibbling.

5. Stamna 2024 – Sotiriou Winery

Does the word Mavrodaphne make your hair stand on end? Relax—we’ve moved past its association with sweet wine. This is something different. Stamna from Sotiriou Winery is a wine with Greek temperament and French finesse, as Panagiotis (the eldest son of the family) brought back the know‑how from his studies in Bordeaux to craft a dry, fruit‑forward Mavrodaphne with zero oak. It has medium body, medium tannins, and a cheeky touch of cocoa, herbs, and meaty notes. Pair it with the pastourmadopita you’ve been saving for a special moment—or mushrooms sautéed with garlic and rosemary.

6. F by Foivos – Agiorgitiko Mandilaria – Foivos Papastratis

Back to our homeland and to Foivos Papastratis, who created this red wine from a blend that might not convince many at first glance. The plush, velvety Agiorgitiko and the wild, tannic Mandilaria came together to produce a tank‑aged wine with rich aromas of cherry, plum, strawberry, and herbs. Its light body and silky tannins convinced us that Papastratis knew exactly what he was doing, highlighting the elegance of both varieties simultaneously—and at a down‑to‑earth price that makes it perfect for everyday “discoveries.” There’s no oak at all, but its slightly spicy finish makes it ideal with parmesan‑crusted salami, peppery bites, or even tacos with beef mince and coriander. Yes, we’re thinking about food again. Oh, Foivos!

7. S Syrah 2024 – Samartzis Vineyards

What does Beaujolais Nouveau have to do with Askri in Viotia? As surreal as the comparison may sound, Panos Samartzis and oenologist Apostolis Mokas decided to apply carbonic maceration to the Syrah grown in the Valley of the 9 Muses, creating a wine with a captivating aromatic profile and soft, velvety tannins.

If you’ve ever bitten into juicy blackberries and black cherries, you’re very close to understanding exactly what we’re talking about. Pair it the with parmesan croquettes coated in pink‑pepper panko and smoked paprika. That’s it.

8. Al‑Muvedre 2023 – Telmo Rodriguez

This is the perfect opportunity to try the Tinto Monastrell variety, especially from the hands of the rebellious Telmo Rodriguez of the Remelluri family. Its generous aromas and concentrated palate (as if you just opened a jar of Bon Maman black berry jam) make you wonder why you’ve been drinking only Tempranillo all this time. The ultimate value‑for‑money gem you can enjoy without overthinking. One bottle will definitely “disappear” while you prepare a plate of aged cheddar and Metsovone—and another 2–3–4 while you enjoy them.

9. Amauta Tannat 2025 – Bodega El Porvenir de Cafayate

Another example of a French‑born variety that traveled to the high altitudes of Argentina, where the combination of sunshine, soil, and dry climate resulted in uniquely concentrated fruit that didn’t need a single day in oak to gain structure, round body, and dense flavor. Plum, cherry, blueberry, sour cherry, blackberry, caramel, and chocolate notes, combined with its crisp acidity, make you genuinely question this price. Gastronomically, go wild—it pairs with everything.
